I grew up in East Texas in the 1950 and 1960 cooking era. I grew up in a very poor area. We didn’t know we were poor, everybody lived about the same. The biggest source of income was a Sawmill and most of our fathers worked there.

My mother learned to cook with very little, but was always able to make it taste good. She raised and fed seven children. We raised large gardens in the summer, and raised hogs and chickens. In the summer we went fishing every chance we go and in the winter we hunted. We were pretty self-sufficient. The only thing we picked up in town was flour, corn meal, salt and a very few other things

I moved to South Louisiana in 1970, fell in love with its people and lifestyle. Later I met and married my wife Dorothy (Dumpie). The recipes on this site are a combination of the ones our mothers used through our lifetime and tastes very good.

These recipes will have you cooking traditional meals, Mexican food, Cajun cuisine, seafood and BBQ on the grill. Louisiana is known worldwide for its wonderful recipes, festivals and Cajun music. This site will try to provide information about life in South Louisiana. Beautiful Bayou pictures, festival information and articles about life in the Cajun Bayou Country.

When we complete our site we will welcome recipes, tips and discussion on various topics that would make this site more interesting.
